Sheryl
Crenshaw
is
a dynamic, energetic instructor with extensive international experience working
with ages preteen to adult. She began her career in Texas where she was born.
With the passport stamps to prove it, she has lived, worked, and traveled for
over 14 years in Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Sheryl is fully fluent
in Spanish and has been able to master “survival” level of other languages as
she travels. She currently resides in Austin, Texas having returned to her
natal roots.
No matter what the subject matter, she
brings the learning environment alive with stimulating activities that engage
the learners while creating a safe micro-community. In particular, her
methods blend the best of brain-based research, Gardner’s theory of Multiple
Intelligences, “Habits of the Mind” by Art Costa and Jane Pollack, TRIBES®
strategies and philosophies, in addition to “Accelerated Learning”. Sheryl has
trained and mentored her colleagues in several of these strategies.
One of the primary goals for all
groups she works with is to create a safe environment whereby participants may
feel comfortable to take risks and more readily access their own talents and
skills.
Her charisma and leadership skills
have put her at the forefront of almost every organization to which she has
belonged, to name a few: past president of the Ladies Guild of Santo Domingo in
the Dominican Republic and Vice President of the Santo Domingo Little Theatre.
Sheryl also plays a key role in creating and coordinating team-building social
events on both large and small scales. One of the best received was a “Fabulous
Fifties Rally” that featured games, contests and a presentation showcasing the
organization’s own members.
She is a member of Phi Delta Kappa,
ASTD and The International Alliance For Learning. She received her Bachelor’s
degree in Spanish and Mathematics from Southwestern University in Georgetown,
Texas and later received her Master’s of Education from Framingham College
through an overseas program while living in the Dominican Republic.
“Sheryl has a particular flair for
developing projects and investigations which both motivate… and develop…
understanding. Other members of her department regularly rely on her for
creative, effective ways to teach some of the otherwise less-than-exciting parts
of the curriculum… Creativity echoes from her classroom walls and displays,
motivating students and teachers alike….She is often the one on her team to draw
the group back to the big picture and focus on what will really work.”
– Bambi Betts, director of PTC,
Principals Training Center
“In the time that Ms. Crenshaw has
worked for me I have found her to be an energetic teacher who made extensive use
of cooperative learning strategies…This year she was heavily involved in the
planning of a service learning project involving soil reclamation and tree
planting. She acted as our liaison to the Peace Corps in helping to set up this
project, which was a tremendous success and has been institutionalized for next
year.”
